When the descale symbol appears in red, the machine should be descaled. Tap on the descale symbol and follow the instructions on the screen (also described in the steps below).
To secure in cup quality day after day, machine performance and longevity, the machine descaling includes two phases:
Recommended phase:
Once the machine reaches descaling threshold, the machine screen will display the descale symbol to indicate that the machine has entered the recommended descaling stage. During this phase, the machine is not blocked and can be used.
The recommended phase begins 7 days after the descaling symbol starts blinking and lasts 15 days.
Mandatory phase:
If descaling is not performed during the recommended phase, the machine enters mandatory phase and becomes blocked. The only way to unblock it is to perform a descaling as describe below.
Descale procedure
The procedure will last about 15 minutes for the Momento coffee only machines, and 60 minutes for the Momento coffee and milk machines. For descaling, use Nespresso liquid descaler. Never use vinegar.
Prepare the following items to complete the descaling process:
- Cleaning tank
- Waste water container
- Nespresso liquid descaler - 2 bags for coffee only machines, 4 bags for coffee and milk machines.
- 1 litre of water
To descale the machine:
- Remove the water tank from the machine.
- Remove the lid and empty the water.
- Remove the water filter.
Fill the water tank up to the descaling level with water.
(The water tank shows different marks. The lower line is for coffee only machines and the higher line is for coffee and milk machines):
- Add the Nespresso liquid descaler - 2 bags for coffee only machines or 4 bags for coffee and milk machines.
- Attach the lid again and place the water tank back into the machine.
- Place an empty container under the coffee outlet and start the descaling procedure.
- When the liquid has stopped, remove the container and empty the contents.
- Remove the water tank.
- Remove the lid and fill the water tank with water.
- Attach the lid again and place the water tank back into the machine.
- Place an empty container under the coffee outlet and start the rinsing procedure.
- When the rinsing has completed, remove the container and empty the contents.
- Remove the water tank and insert the filter back into position.
Fill the tank with clean water, attach the lid and place back into the machine.
